The Woman's Club is dedicated to service to the community and preservation of our historic building. Several projects were undertaken in the past year. In the fall, members of the Community Service Committee attended the Salvation Army "Teddy Bear Tea" and came away with over 100 bears to dress and 60 stockings to fill. Our members generously took over these tasks and returned them to the Salvation Army for distribution to needy children. We also contacted Winter Park Public Housing for names of families in need of assistance at the holidays and provided gifts and gift certificates for two single parent families in Winter Park. We decorated the tree on Morse Avenue in Winter Park and participated in the Winter Park City Christmas Parade.
In the spring, we filled bags with necessary hygiene items for distribution to the homeless by the Orlando Union Rescue Mission. We collected clothing for Dress For Success and gave financial support to several other local charities such as Seminole Safe House, Pathways to Care, New Hope for Kids, Sentinel Santa, BETA, Winter Park Day Nursery, Esteem Program, Harbor House and The Salvation Army. Preserving the Club House for future generations requires extensive fundraising. We held two Antique Show/Sales featuring the finest local dealers. A Bingo Lunch, bake sale and various raffles helped raise funds throughout the year. Members made additional donations at the annual Silver Tea. In January, we celebrated the founding of our Club with a cocktail reception and Silent Auction to provide funds for the Scholarship Endowment Fund. |
