The Scholarship Foundation of the Woman's Club of Winter Park was established in 1938. At that time, funds were raised from bridge parties, bake sales, flea markets and fashion shows. Students were given small loans and paid them back when they could.
In 1973, the Scholarship Endowment Fund was established and is now funded by contributions and bequests from club members and club fund raising events.
Each year, scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholarship, leadership and financial need. Any student, male or female, from Orange or Seminole County is eligible to apply. The size of the awards is based on the number given each year and the amount available from the endowment fund. In the past 10 years, they have ranged from $800 to $1500 per student per year.
A past member, Miss Helen Steinmetz, established one scholarship specifically for a female of Native American heritage. Unlike the other scholarships, applicants for this award may be from anywhere in Florida. Every December we hold a special event, the Scholarship Tea, in which each scholarship recipient is invited to come and meet the members and share their experiences. First time applicants must fill out an application form and supply official transcripts and letters of recommendation. Applications and further information may be requested by letter or email.
